Highways
DeKalb County is centrally located between two major interstate
highways. I-40 is 12 miles north of Smithville via State Route 56
and 8 miles north of Alexandria via State Route 53. Interstate 24 is
40 miles west and accessible at Murfreesboro via State Route 96 or at
Manchester via State Route 56 and 55. Additionally I-75 is easily
accessible from Knoxville as is I-65 at Nashville.
U. S. 70
is the major east-west route through the county. Currently five (5)
lanes from Smithville west to SR 96 at Liberty, construction is planned to
the remaining mileage west to Alexandria.

Route 53 provides quick and easy access to I-40 from US 70 at Alexandria.

Route 56 traverses the county from north and south linking Smithville to
I-40 on the north and McMinnville and I-24 at Manchester on the south end.
